This Care Certificate Standard 12 Basic Life Support course gives healthcare workers the essential knowledge and confidence to respond effectively in emergencies. It forms part of the Care Certificate framework and can be taken as a standalone module or as part of the full package.
The course explains how to assess situations where first aid is required, deal with unconscious casualties (both breathing and non‑breathing), and respond to choking, shock, bleeding, and minor injuries. Learners also practise the procedures for CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and FBAO (Foreign Body Airway Obstruction). As a result, staff gain the skills to act quickly and appropriately when every second counts.
By the end of this Care Certificate Standard 12 Basic Life Support training, participants will know how to provide immediate support, reduce harm, and potentially save lives.
Emergencies can happen at any time in health and social care environments. Therefore, staff must be ready to recognise when someone needs urgent help and respond without hesitation. With the right training, workers apply life‑saving techniques, follow best practice, and meet the standards required for safe and effective care.
