Training Content Practical Assessment of:

• Pre-use check of a harness and lanyard
• Fitting and adjustment of a harness and lanyard for use in a MEWP
• Attaching to the correct anchor point in a MEWP and adjustment of the lanyard to provide effective restraint

Course Practical Assessment Candidates will be asked to perform a pre-use check of a Harness and Lanyard, don and adjust the harness and attach to the correct anchor point of a MEWP, adjusting to achieve effective restraint. This will be observed and assessed by the Instructor and marked as correct or incorrect in the Training Assessment Booklet within the Operator Training Practical section. This assessment evaluates the candidate’s practical application of the knowledge gained in the Awareness Theory Training and is a prerequisite for the IPAF Harness Inspector training course. Successful candidates will:

• Demonstrate competence in the correct pre-use check of a harness and lanyard
• Demonstrate competence in how to correctly fit and adjust a harness and lanyard for use in a MEWP
• Demonstrate the correct anchor point to attach the lanyard to in a MEWP and adjust the lanyard to be effective

Equipment & Other Requirements

Candidates are required to bring the following equipment on the day of the training

• Company CITB Levy number – Candidates attending Construction related courses should bring their company CITB Levy number with them if applicable.
• A Form of photo ID ( Passport, Driving license, Formal ID Cards)

CANDIDATES MUST DOWNLOAD AND REGISTER ON THE NEW IPAF ePAL APP PRIOR TO ATTENDING THE COURSE

Once registered candidates will receive an email from IPAF to activate the APP

IPAF have digitised PAL Cards with the new ePAL app, available to both new and existing operators. This replaces the need for paper and plastic documents and licenses with operators’ qualifications and experience easily recorded, stored and shared.

Operators can download the app for free to Apple iOS and Android devices and use it to view and access their digital PAL Cards, logbooks and IPAF safety guides.

The New IPAF Digital PAL Card Licence Application (ePAL) will be the new default licence and the cost is included in the price of the course. For anyone who would like an additional Physical PAL Card Licence (Printed PAL Card)

This would be an additional cost of £12.50 + vat

This Harness Awareness HA course provides the essential knowledge to enable a successful candidate to select, monitor, manage and plan the correct use of Harnesses and lanyards for use in a MEWP and is a prerequisite for the IPAF Harness User training course.

• The Harness for User HU

This assessment evaluates the candidate’s practical application of the knowledge gained in the Awareness Theory Training and is a prerequisite for the IPAF Harness Inspector training course. Successful candidates will:

• Demonstrate competence in how to correctly fit and adjust a harness and lanyard for use in a MEWP
• Demonstrate the correct anchor point to attach the lanyard to in a MEWP and adjust the lanyard to be effective

At the end of the course candidates will:

• Understand how to correctly identify and select the appropriate form of personal protection against falls from MEWPs
• Understand how to check, use, maintain and store a harness and lanyard with the manufacturer’s instructions
• Understand how to correctly fit and adjust a harness and lanyard
• Demonstrate competence in how to correctly fit and adjust a harness and lanyard for use in a MEWP
• Demonstrate the correct anchor point to attach the lanyard to in a MEWP and adjust the lanyard to be effective

The IPAF Harness HA course provides the essential knowledge to enable a successful candidate to select, monitor, manage and plan the correct use of Harnesses and lanyards for use in a MEWP and is a prerequisite for the IPAF Harness User training course. At the end of the course candidates will:
