Course Content

The programme listed below is provisional and may vary in layout. Before you can do an Instructor course you must contact IPAF, to register the course and book an IPAF Examiner to attend the 5th day. All proof of points of criteria must be sent to IPAF so they can confirm the applicant is able to attend the course. For the full current programme please contact IPAF. THE PROGRAMME WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING SUBJECTS DAY 1 – INTRODUCTION INITIAL ASSESSMENT:
  • Theory test
  • Test of candidate’s ability on the machine
  • Preparation for presentation
DAY 2 – IPAF COURSES:
  • Individual candidate 30-minute presentation on chosen MEWP subject – assessed
  • Planning the day
  • Overview of the IPAF Courses available
  • Introduction to the IPAF operator course
  • IPAF operator practical/testing procedures – machines
  • Operator Practical demonstration and testing – assessed
DAY 3 – IPAF COURSES (continued):
  • IPAF Operator Course Theory (candidate)
  • Operation
  • Paperwork
DAY 4 – INDIVIDUAL PRESENTATIONS:
  • Individual Presentations
  • Practical Demonstration
DAY 5 – FINAL TEST:
  • Final test with IPAF Allocated Examiner. (1 for 1–2 candidates, 2 for 3–4 candidates)
  • Mentoring will need to be undertaken by the Instructor a ½ day theory, ½ day practical and a full day.
  • An IPAF “systems day” is compulsory for new instructors within 12 months.

Equipment & Other Requirements

Candidates are required to bring the following equipment on the day of the training
  • PPE – Hard Hat, Safety boots, High Visible Jacket/Vest, Full body harness & adjustable restraint lanyard
  • Company CITB Levy number – Candidates attending Construction related courses should bring their company CITB Levy number with them if applicable.
  • A Form of photo ID ( Passport, Driving license, Formal ID Cards)
Failure to have the correct PPE & Harness for the practical training session may effect candidates completing the training course. You can purchase a Harness & Lanyard set for the training from us for £69.95 +vat for the set.*

CANDIDATES MUST DOWNLOAD AND REGISTER ON THE NEW IPAF ePAL APP PRIOR TO ATTENDING THE COURSE

Once registered candidates will receive an email from IPAF to activate the APP

IPAF have digitised PAL Cards with the new ePAL app, available to both new and existing operators. This replaces the need for paper and plastic documents and licenses with operators’ qualifications and experience easily recorded, stored and shared.

Operators can download the app for free to Apple iOS and Android devices and use it to view and access their digital PAL Cards, logbooks and IPAF safety guides.

The New IPAF Digital PAL Card Licence Application (ePAL) will be the new default licence and the cost is included in the price of the course. For anyone who would like an additional Physical PAL Card Licence (Printed PAL Card)

This would be an additional cost of £12.50 + vat

At the end of the course the instructor will:

Course Aim

To train and assess an instructor to understand the working of the IPAF training programme and assess their knowledge on both the machines and their ability to convey information to candidates. The successful completion of which when combined with evidence listed in 2.1.2 would lead to an IPAF instructor’s licence.

Course Overview

This five day course is designed for experienced operators who wish to become IPAF instructors. All delegates must meet the course entry criteria. As the assembly and use of MEWPs can be physically demanding, users should be physically fit and in good health and should, generally, not have problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, fear of heights/vertigo, giddiness/difficulty with balance, impaired limb function, alcohol or drug dependence or psychiatric illness. If you have any problems with literacy or language comprehension, or have any doubts about your fitness to use MEWPs, you must bring them to the attention of your employer. This need not preclude you from using MEWPs, provided your employer conducts an assessment and is able to put into place adequate measures, to take account of any difficulties you may have. Minimum Requirements:
  • 36 months’ MEWP operating experience
  • IPAF Operator PAL card held for 6 months minimum
  • IPAF Demonstrator PAL card held for 3 months minimum
  • IPAF MEWPs for Managers
  • Evidence of Acceptable Instructional Techniques training – (3 days minimum)
  • Successful completion of an approved Harness Instructor course
  • Evidence of HSE required standard for First Aid at Work training level
