Course Content

Delegates on this course will be required to actively participate in group discussion and syndicate exercises analysing and assessing various workplace scenarios. Topics covered include: – Legal requirements – Definition of confined spaces – Safe system /permit to work – Gas monitor equipment, confined spaces & practical handling – PPE Equipment – Breathing apparatus – Manning levels – Risk assessments – Entry & Exit

Equipment & Other Requirements

Candidates are required to bring the following equipment on the day of the training:-
  • PPE – Hard Hat, Safety boots, High Visible Jacket/Vest.
  • Company CITB Levy number – Candidates attending Construction related courses should bring their company CITB Levy number with them if applicable.
  • A Form of photo ID ( Passport, Driving license, Formal ID Cards)
Delegates will be expected to descend/ascend and traverse a designated confined space within a training simulator, wearing an approved safety harness and breathing apparatus with face mask/hood and PPE. The delegate will be expected to crawl through a series of tunnels under various simulated emergency conditions that include; noise, limited light, and variable safe atmospheric conditions.

If attending a refresher course candidate must provide their current certificate on the day of the training.

Learning Objectives

Health and safety overview The Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 & Approved Code of Practice Identification of risks and their control Workplace safety Weil’s Disease Hazardous atmospheres and gas monitoring The risk assessment process Operation of safe systems of work Use of permit to work control measures Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), pre-use inspection and safe operation (IP rated, intrinsically safe and ATEX approved) Fall arrest systems Safe entry/exit Emergency procedures Theoretical and practical training on escape breathing apparatus Implement procedures for teams working in confined space Control safe entry and exit to the confined space Control emergency procedures Understand standard protocols for work in confined space Understand environmental and health and safety legislation

Course Aim

By the end of the Confined Space Medium Risk Course the training delegates will have gained sufficient knowledge and understanding to control, monitor, implement procedures, enter, work and exit medium risk confined spaces in a safe and hazard free manner.

Course Overview

This course enables delegates to competently enter, work in and exit from confined space areas. Including chamber, manholes, wet well, multi-landing or any vertical confined space. The aim of this course: – Reduced risk of serious injuries and death
