Course Overview: The IPAF Harness HA course provides the essential knowledge to enable a successful candidate to select, monitor, manage and plan the correct use of Harnesses and lanyards for use in a MEWP and is a prerequisite for the IPAF Harness User training course. At the end of the course candidates will: • Understand how to correctly identify and select the appropriate form of personal protection against falls from MEWPs • Understand how to check, use, maintain and store a harness and lanyard with the manufacturer's instructions • Understand how to correctly fit and adjust a harness and lanyard Course Structure • Theory Training • Theory Test Harness for user HU - Candidates must have successfully completed the IPAF Harness Awareness HA course prior to undertaking the IPAF Harness for users HU 20 minute practical Training.
Learning Objectives: This Harness Awareness HA course provides the essential knowledge to enable a successful candidate to select, monitor, manage and plan the correct use of Harnesses and lanyards for use in a MEWP and is a prerequisite for the IPAF Harness User training course. The Harness for User HU This assessment evaluates the candidate’s practical application of the knowledge gained in the Awareness Theory Training and is a prerequisite for the IPAF Harness Inspector training course. Successful candidates will: • Demonstrate competence in the correct pre-use check of a harness and lanyard • Demonstrate competence in how to correctly fit and adjust a harness and lanyard for use in a MEWP • Demonstrate the correct anchor point to attach the lanyard to in a MEWP and adjust the lanyard to be effective
Course Content: Training Content Theory • Introduction • Hierarchy of Person Fall Protective Equipment (PFPE) • Know your Equipment: Harness Systems • Anchor Points • Boom Platform Hazards: Stay Safe • Vertical Platform Hazards: Stay Safe • Pre-use Checks • Donning and Doffing • Cleaning and Storage • Summary Training Content Practical Assessment of: • Pre-use check of a harness and lanyard • Fitting and adjustment of a harness and lanyard for use in a MEWP • Attaching to the correct anchor point in a MEWP and adjustment of the lanyard to provide effective restraint Course Practical Assessment Candidates will be asked to perform a pre-use check of a Harness and Lanyard, don and adjust the harness and attach to the correct anchor point of a MEWP, adjusting to achieve effective restraint. This will be observed and assessed by the Instructor and marked as correct or incorrect in the Training Assessment Booklet within the Operator Training Practical section.
