Course Overview: SSSTS is an accredited CITB course for construction site supervisors. The SSSTS course is a nationally recognised safety qualification and it is now a requirement set out by many major contractor groups for all supervisors working on site. The SSSTS CITB Course is attended by thousands of delegates every year across the country and is endorsed by the UK Contractors Group as the standard training for all supervisors on UKCG sites. Construction skills and workplace safety should go hand in hand, this safety course makes it a priority to encourage improved safety skills and reduce accidents and injuries. Every year thousands of employees are injured at work, with many working in the construction industry. Due to these high numbers, it’s essential that all organisations comply with the law, running a site with minimal risk to employees. Not only is the SSSTS course a requirement by industry groups, it is also the ideal course for anyone looking to take a supervisory role in the construction industry.
Learning Objectives: Learners will gain an understanding of what is expected of the supervisor role and how they can contribute to a culture of health and safety in their organisation. While this qualification will not lead to you obtaining a Gold CSCS card, this industry-recognised course provides an excellent foundation to help learners take that step up from labourer to supervisor. The course is endorsed by multiple important industry bodies including BuildUK and provides quality, up-to-date training in health, safety, welfare and environmental awareness.
Course Content: This CITB course includes the following elements: An introduction into health and safety on site, as well as welfare and environmental issues that those in a supervisory role must be aware of. This also includes the legal responsibilities that are relevant to supervisors whilst safely managing a construction site What is expected of site supervisors, including occupational health issues that arise within the construction sector An understanding of how health and safety law is structured, and how the role of a supervisor links in with the role of a site manager when controlling site safety Risk assessments – how to carry these out and why method statements are a legal requirement Fire prevention and control, control of hazardous substances, CDM (Construction Design Management) Regulations, Working at Height, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), manual handling, accidents and first aid How to carry out site inductions, toolbox talks and method statement briefings Understanding the need for proactive and reactive monitoring Full attendance is essential, and candidates will be expected to actively participate. Continual assessment will take place during the course. There is also a multiple-choice assessment at the end of the course.
Course Aim: The SSSTS course is aimed at all site supervisors working in construction and is the first step in health and safety for all new managers or supervisors. Working within this role, you have a legal and moral responsibility for all employees and visitors to the site. This means you should be fully aware of all health and safety aspects. As the supervisor or manager of a team, you are the first contact if employees have any concerns about the environment they work within. This means you need to be fully informed about all aspects of site safety, regardless of your teams size. Undertaking this SSSTS CITB course enables delegates to gain a well-rounded understanding of their role within the industry and how important it is to practice good management.
